SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (Dec. 1, 2024) — The Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute (CRSI) announced the promotion of David Fanella, Ph.D., P.E., S.E., F.ACI, F.ASCE, F.SEI, to the position of vice president of engineering. In this role, Fanella is responsible for overseeing all technical activities performed by the CRSI engineering team.

Fanella began his career with CRSI in 2016, facilitating the development and output of technical information produced by the institute, as well directing and aiding our technical department and member technical committees. He has authored numerous publications on reinforced concrete design, including the recent CRSI publications “Design Guide on the ACI 318 Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete” and “Seismic Design Guide for Steel Reinforced Concrete Buildings.”

Fanella is a recipient of the Alfred E. Lindau Award from the American Concrete Institute for outstanding contributions to reinforced concrete design practice. He is a member of several ACI Committees and serves on ASCE Committee 7, Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures. He is a Fellow of the American Concrete Institute, the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Structural Engineers Institute. Fanella is a licensed structural and professional engineer in Illinois and is a past board member and president of the Structural Engineers Association of Illinois.
