McConnellsburg, Pennsylvania ( March 13, 2019)—JLG Industries Inc., an Oshkosh Corporation company and global manufacturer of aerial work platforms and telehandlers, recieved the Digital Development Award from the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) and Access International at the annual International Awards for Powered Access (IAPA) conference.
The award recognizes a significant innovation in the use of digital technology for rental companies and owners/users of aerial platforms. JLG was honored for its building information modelling (BIM) library, which launched earlier this year and includes the full JLG product line.
“We are delighted to receive this award as it reflects our ongoing commitment to bringing innovations in digital technology to the access industry, said Guru Bandekar, global vice president, product management and development, JLG Industries. “Advancements in BIM allow for enhanced collaboration among architects, engineers and construction personnel, while delivering greater insights into the entire building lifecycle.”
The major advantage of BIM for rental companies is the ability to identify (in the early stages of construction) the equipment required for the job. Preplanning allows for the on-time delivery of machines, helping to avoid delays in construction schedules.
JLG’s BIM models are created internally instead of through a third party. By creating their own models, JLG gives users access to specifications that look and perform like the actual equipment will on the job. It also allows JLG to be in direct control of equipment revisions to ensure model information is up to date.
