George Hedley Wraps Up Most Recent BIZ-GROUP Meeting

George Hedley, of Hardhat BIZCOACH and columnist at

magazine, hosts and facilitates ongoing,

-sponsored, mastermind peer groups around the country for construction business owners. He just concluded the semiannual two-day

BIZ-GROUP meetings held at Marriott hotels in San Francisco and New Orleans.

George told

that he was impressed with the progress of the 23 construction business owner members who are committed to improving their businesses and attend the meetings. “We’ve been together for over a year, and the progressive changes and improvements are better than I could have hoped for,” he said. “Some of the members have doubled their sales, others have increased their bottom-line profits, most have streamlined their systems and all have learned what other successful company owners do to make their companies work.”

Each of the members shared their issues, challenges and best business practices. Everyone opened up and helped each other with systems and programs to increase their field productivity, financial methods and management structure plans. In addition, they all reviewed and shared excellent standardized systems, including the following:

– Profit and loss statements

– Daily job reports

– Productivity measurement systems

– Profit sharing programs

– Profitability improvement systems

– Maximizing change orders

– Job cost reports

– Estimating projection reports

– Marketing and sales techniques

– Ownership pay structures

– Targets and goals for 2013

George also commented, “It never surprises me that when company owners invest time and money improving their businesses, positive things happen! And when they don’t [make these investments], they continue to struggle and not make enough money for their risk and effort they take.”

The groups also attended great dinners at local restaurants, and to extend the weekend and make it a small retreat, many also stayed over for a few extra days to enjoy the sights.
