ALEXANDRIA, Va. — In a Sept. 16 ceremony held in conjunction with the ASA Champions Academy 2012 in Alexandria, Va., the American Subcontractors Association recognized ASA of Arizona as 2011-12 ASA Chapter of the Year. The award recognizes an ASA chapter that works to improve the business climate for construction subcontractors and provide professional development and networking opportunities for its members.

“Our winning chapter is in a construction community that suffered one of the longest and deepest downturns during the Great Recession. But even when things looked bleakest, the chapter looked for inventive professional development programs, novel and fun events and original leadership and member involvement,” said ASA Task Force on Chapter Services Co-Chairman Vince Migliazzo, Mark One Electric Company, Kansas City, Mo., who presented the award.
Migliazzo noted that ASA of Arizona demonstrated strength in all 11 categories of ASA’s Annual Chapter Self-Evaluation and highlighted some of the chapter’s achievements, including:

  • Introducing new education and community-building programs.
  • Expanding its government outreach on behalf of subcontractors.
  • Growing membership in what was one of the worst construction markets in the country.

The ASA Task Force on Chapter Services, composed of ASA members and chapter executives from across the country, selected ASA of Arizona for the honor. Executive Director Carol Floco accepted the award on behalf of the chapter.
