Eighty Four, Pennsylvania (January 4, 2019)—Just before this past holiday season, 84 Lumber and Nemacolin Woodlands Resort paid tribute to victims of the Tree of Life synagogue shooting in Squirrel Hill, Pennsylvania. The sister companies made monetary donations to two organizations that have been impacted by the tragedy—ACHIEVA and the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh—Dec. 21 at Nemacolin’s final "Light Up Nemacolin" event of 2018.
Last fall, 84 Lumber associates raised $10,000 for ACHIEVA, an organization that offered services to victims Cecil and David Rosenthal. A member of the Rosenthal family attended the check presentation ceremony at Nemacolin, during which the resort also donated $5,000 to the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh to help the organization with ongoing recovery efforts. Former Pittsburgh Steeler Brett Keisel, who has a personal connection to the incident, accepted the donations on behalf of the organizations.
“The Pittsburgh community is still grappling with this heinous act, so we wanted to show our solidarity with the many people who continue to seek ways to cope,” said Maggy Hardy, owner and president of 84 Lumber and Nemacolin. “As we enter a new year, we want to continue driving the message that love will always overcome hate. Always.”
