ATLANTA—The Associated General Contractors of Georgia (AGC Georgia) and the Construction Education Foundation of Georgia are partnering with YouScience to uncover high school students throughout the state with an aptitude for careers in the construction industry. More than 11,000 public high school students from Georgia have already participated in the YouScience Program, and the results clearly demonstrate that these students have the talent to fill the workforce needs for Georgia’s burgeoning construction industry.
AGC Georgia has placed an emphasis on workforce development for several years to keep pace with the state’s growing needs for construction, and member firms are looking to hire high school students for work-based opportunities this summer. The organization and many of its construction firm members have committed to hire at least one high school student as identified by their YouScience Profile as a good fit, based on aptitudes and interests, for a 2018 summer internship.
Early qualifying students must have completed their YouScience Profile by March 5, 2018 and demonstrate a high aptitude or interest for construction to be eligible to interview at the Georgia Career Expo and Hiring Fair (March 22-24, 2018), AND can become part of the CEFGA workforce pipeline through their ongoing student hiring database. Students will also be interviewed by participating construction firms near the student’s high school. In addition to summer internships, CEFGA will be identifying work-based learning opportunities for the 2018-2019 school year.
The Georgia Department of Education and the Technical College System of Georgia partnered together to make YouScience available at no cost to every student attending public high school in the state of Georgia. A representative from the school, or its superintendent’s office, simply needs to reach out to YouScience and request free access to the program.
