WASHINGTON (April 2, 2021) — An Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) analysis of data released last week by the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that 110,000 jobs in March. Employment is now 1.7% higher than this time last year. This coincides with unemployment numbers dropping to 6% from 6.2% in February. The construction industry alone has added 931,000 jobs since April 2020 — an 83.6% recovery of jobs lost during the COVID-19 pandemic. Nonresidential construction added 73,100 jobs in March, making up the bulk of the employment recovery.
“Here comes the tsunami of economic and employment growth across America,” said ABC Chief Economist Anirban Basu. “With more stimulus on the way, the U.S. may end up growing faster than China this year, which would be the first time that occurred in decades."
