SACRAMENTO, CALIF (March 4, 2015) - The first piece of steel at the Entertainment and Sports Center (ESC) was recently installed. Located in the heart of downtown Sacramento, the ESC will serve as a civic indoor and outdoor space for the region, as well as the new home for the Sacramento Kings. The piece of steel was installed at what will become the team’s new practice facility. The steel was supplied and fabricated by Schuff Steel, of Stockton, California, with help from their subcontractor Pacific Erectors, of Rocklin, California. Highlights include: • Each vertical column is approximately 40 feet tall • Approximately 9,000 tons of steel will be used in the overall project, with 970 tons on the practice facility alone • Steel installation at the practice facility will last approximately four to five weeks, at which time steel erection of the arena will begin • Steel installation will continue through fall of 2015 The ESC is scheduled to open fall of 2016, just in time for the NBA’s 2016-2017 season.
