A new report from FMI Corporation, “Megaprojects: Changing the Conversation,” estimates that annual construction put in place for megaprojects in the U.S. will increase 600%—from $50 billion to $350 billion.
The report also found that since 2012, approximately 320 megaprojects have been awarded. Another 670-plus megaprojects are in the planning phase, representing a future investment that could amount to $2 trillion.
Sabine Hoover, FMI content director and author of the report, said, “Our initial research confirms that a small group of engineering and construction players and owners are deploying a fresh approach to collaboration and teamwork on these large projects, taking on a “one-unit” mindset—unified by a shared sense of purpose and a fair business model—rather than working as separate entities against each other. While this seems simple to do, it’s surprisingly difficult to get right.”
