New York City (November 20, 2018)—Hunter Roberts Construction Group (Hunter Roberts) has announced that President and Chief Executive Officer James McKenna was honored at the annual NephCure Countdown to a Cure event on November 8, 2018. Proceeds from the event go to NephCure Kidney International, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to accelerate research for effective treatments for rare forms of Nephrotic Syndrome and to provide education and support that will improve the lives of those affected by these protein-spilling kidney diseases. The event raised a record-breaking $1.3 million for the important cause and was attended by over 700 guests.
NephCure Kidney International is the leading organization for research support, legislative action and patient resources for Nephrotic Syndrome, a chronic kidney disease that can lead to kidney failure and recurs in up to 50 percent of transplanted kidneys, in both children and adults. Through nearly two decades of crucial awareness-raising activities and scientific collaborations, the Food and Drug Administration and other important governmental and scientific bodies are expediting research for rare forms of chronic kidney disease.
In turn, the pharmaceutical industry has recently committed massive research and development money to advance drugs to cure Nephrotic Syndrome, which affects more than 100,000 individuals nationwide. NephCure now faces the challenge of connecting those in need with these potential new treatments. The proceeds from the event will go towards the creation of Kidney Health Gateway, an application that will quickly connect patients to trials, streamline research communication, and educate kidney doctors and their patients on available drug studies.
“Our initial fundraising goal was to raise one million dollars. We are excited and grateful to announce that we significantly surpassed that estimate,” said Christopher Phillips, senior vice president and chief marketing officer at NephCure Kidney International. “Every single dollar raised will positively impact the important research that NephCure Kidney International does every day. It was an honor to host more than 700 guests at this year’s groundbreaking fundraiser, and I look forward to seeing how the organization continues to grow in the future. Thank you to James McKenna and Hunter Roberts Construction Group for all the hard work that they have put toward our cause.”
