St. Louis, Missouri (October 23, 2018)—KAI Design & Build has acquired Dorsey Engineering Inc., effective October 1, 2018. The acquisition expands KAI’s service reach into Georgia and Florida while providing Dorsey’s existing clients with access to expansive technologies, additional engineering consulting and design resources, and building information modeling (BIM) capabilities offered through KAI.
Since its founding in 1983, Dorsey Engineering has provided engineering consulting and design services to building owners, architects, federal and state government agencies, design-build contractors, and a vast variety of clients throughout the United States and the Caribbean.
Under the acquisition agreement, Dorsey’s office staff in Atlanta, Georgia, and Jacksonville, Florida, will complete its current contractual commitments to its clients, with all new opportunities as of Oct. 1, 2018 moving forward as KAI Engineering LLC. Some of Dorsey’s clientele includes Home Depot, Siemens, Department of Veteran Affairs, Macy’s, Caterpillar, U.S. Forest Service, Johnson & Johnson, Atlanta public schools, Center for Disease Control, Gwinnet County public schools, DeKalb County school district, Marriott International and Hilton Hotels & Resorts.
“This acquisition is important to KAI for several reasons. We now have a broader reach in Atlanta that will extend all the way from our headquarters in St. Louis, Missouri, down to Jacksonville, Florida, and around our existing offices in Texas and Nebraska,” said KAI President Michael Kennedy Jr. “Acquiring Dorsey also enables us to have greater opportunities in an engineering-focused role, as opposed to being an engineering subconsultant, which has generally been KAI Engineering’s role in the past. Dorsey Engineering has earned a reputation for engineering quality with superior name recognition. Both of our clientele will benefit greatly from our shared resources at the national level," he continued.
To facilitate a successful transition, Dorsey Engineering owner Brad H. Dorsey, P.E. will remain with the firm during the transition period, then work as a consultant until his retirement. KAI intends to grow the Atlanta, Georgia, and Jacksonville, Florida, staff to over 25 engineers and designers, with relocation of current staff beginning immediately.
“The combination of Dorsey’s recognition and reputation, combined with KAI’s progressive approach to collaborative engineering, architecture, and construction solutions, aligns perfectly and will create a powerful platform to meet the evolving needs of our industry and national customer base,” said Dorsey. “Each of our companies bring complementary strengths that combine to a sum much greater than our individual parts.”
