Rockville, Maryland (December 27, 2018)—Shapiro & Duncan Inc. has been honored by the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) with The Corporate Social Responsibility Award at its annual Business Awards Dinner on Tuesday, November 13, 2018. The Corporate Social Responsibility Award is present to an individual or company that has demonstrated exemplary business practices, dedicated involvement and unyielding commitment to the community service and volunteer programs to enrich the lives of residents in Montgomery County.
Shapiro & Duncan combines the resources and technical expertise of the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) and plumbing trades with a passion to encourage and support employees in all facets of community and industry outreach. In addition, the company feels strongly about career-based education and the need to provide students with the knowledge of the construction career paths available to them. They do this in many ways, including serving on local boards/committees, participating in school career days and by providing internships and mentorships in construction.
Some of the company’s strongest partnerships include Junior Achievement, Associated Builders and Contractors, Children’s National Medical Center and the annual Big Build event at the Washington Building Museum.
As a new initiative this year, Shapiro & Duncan focused on diversity. The company teamed up with Women Building Washington from Associated Builders and Contractors Metro Washington and Rebuilding Together Montgomery County. Four of their women in construction spent a day helping single women in need repair their homes. Altogether, they raised $21,000.
In addition, the company worked closely with SEEC, an innovative nonprofit agency providing a wide range of community support to help people with developmental disabilities and has successfully employed a candidate for over a year. This past October Shapiro & Duncan received the Visionaries Award from Seeking Employment, Equality and Community for People with Developmental Disabilitie (SEEC) for embracing and engaging the contributions of people with disabilities into their workforce.
Shapiro & Duncan has also received recognition from the Maryland Department of Disabilities and Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) and the Direct Support Professional/Employer recognition from First Lady Yumi Hogan at the Maryland State House. The company was honored for their dedication, expertise, accomplishments, and their vital contribution to communities across the state of Maryland.
