LEAGUE CITY, Texas (July 14, 2016) — South Shore Harbour Resort and Conference Center announced the completion of a multi-million dollar renovation that began in November 2015. The extensive property transformation, themed “A new look. A new experience,” energizes the hotel with contemporary, nautically inspired design and enhanced guest services.
“American National Insurance Company is excited about this project and very pleased with the results. We are proud to be able to once again provide a high caliber property for the South Shore community and for business and leisure travelers visiting the Bay Area,” said Scott Webb, assistant vice president of real estate for American National Insurance Company. “I believe that South Shore Harbour Resort and Conference Center is again the premier hotel in the area, as it was when it was originally built 28 years ago.”
This refresh, the first comprehensive update of the property since it opened in 1988, encompasses the entire hotel: all guest rooms and suites; public spaces including the pool area, hotel restaurant, lobby and lobby bar; and its 25,000 square feet of conference space. Other improvements include a new air conditioning system and LED energy-efficient lighting throughout. American National Insurance Company and management company, 1859 Historic Hotels, committed to the renovation based on recommendations from hospitality advisory firm T.R. ENGEL Group, LLC. Celebrated Dallas firm Flick-Mars led the interior design, and Gilbane Building Company served as general contractor for the project.
“The phenomenal response from guests and meeting planners has exceeded our expectations,” said Roy Green, general manager. “Those who know us are delighted with the ‘new’ South Shore Harbour, and those who don’t know us yet are in for a big, positive surprise. We are grateful to the property’s owner, American National Insurance Company, for committing to this investment.”
More than half of the 238 guest rooms and many of the function spaces at South Shore Harbour Resort and Conference Center afford marina views, and the renovation pays homage to the hotel’s natural surroundings by introducing marine elements to the interior.
“Because the property is naturally outlined on a harbor, our team found it imperative to reflect the ubiquitous oceanic presence in the design of the interiors,” said Matt Mars, architect and principal, Flick-Mars. “Modern yet classical nautical elements were realized throughout the space in the design of carpet patterns to reflect fishermen's nets and wood detailing mimicking the ebb and flow of the ocean. Art installations hang casually on stainless steel boat cleats and reflect maritime imagery in different areas on the property.”
These design details carry through from the new, welcoming porte cochere and airy lobby to the common areas, including the Lighthouse Bar & Bistro, offering panoramic views of the water and a menu of locally sourced delicacies; Paradise Reef, the hotel restaurant, with refreshed furniture and window treatments; and the completely reimagined Oasis Pool. More than $1 million was invested in the hotel’s iconic marina-side pool and deck, which has been improved with new landscaping, lighting, chic lounge seating, water features, a swim-up cocktail bar and cabanas.
All guest rooms and the hotel’s two 1,200-square-foot bi-level penthouse suites have been upgraded with plush bedding and contemporary furnishings. Among the room appointments are a 43-inch television, mini-refrigerator, coffeemaker, in-room safe, comfortable seating, signature porthole wall art, new balcony furniture and oversized marble desks. Updates to guest bathrooms include new decorative mirrors, contemporary lighting and upgraded linens and amenities.
Reintroduced as a premier destination for group meetings customers, corporate individuals and weekend getaway customers who seek superior quality product and services, the South Shore Harbour Resort and Conference Center features 25,000 square feet of meeting space including an 8,800 square-foot ballroom, 80-seat amphitheater training center, board room, meeting suites and flexible event spaces, several with water views. All meeting facilities have been refreshed with new carpeting, furnishings, lighting and painting.
