WASHINGTON (Oct. 26, 2021) — The Equipment Leasing and Finance Association’s (ELFA) Monthly Leasing and Finance Index (MLFI-25), which reports economic activity from 25 companies representing a cross section of the $900 billion equipment finance sector, showed their overall new business volume for September was $9.2 billion, up 6% year-over-year from new business volume in September 2020. Volume was up 8% month-to-month from $9.9 billion in August.

ARLINGTON, Va. (Oct. 22, 2021) — Only 14 states and the District of Columbia have added construction jobs since just before the start of the pandemic in February 2020, according to an analysis of federal employment data by the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC). Association officials noted that widespread supply chain disruptions amid and the lack of a much-needed federal infrastructure bill have impeded the sector’s recovery.

HAMILTON, N.J. (Oct. 19, 2021) — Total construction starts rose 10% in September to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $889.7 billion, according to Dodge Construction Network. All three sectors improved: nonresidential building starts rose 15%, residential starts moved 9% higher and nonbuilding starts increased by 6%.

ARLINGTON, Va. (Oct. 15, 2021) — The prices contractors pay for construction materials far outstripped the prices contractors charge in the 12 months ending in September, despite a recent decline in a few materials prices, while delivery problems intensified, according to an analysis by the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) of government data.

WASHINGTON (Oct. 8, 2021) — The construction industry added 22,000 jobs on net in September, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) analysis of data by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Overall, the industry has recovered 912,000 (81.9%) of the jobs lost during earlier stages of the pandemic.

HAMILTON, N.J. (Oct. 7, 2021) — The Dodge Momentum Index gained 11% in September to 164.9 (2000=100) from the revised August reading of 148. The Momentum Index, issued by Dodge Construction Network, is a monthly measure of the initial report for nonresidential building projects in planning, which have been shown to lead construction spending for nonresidential buildings by a full year.
