HAMILTON, N.J. (Feb. 7, 2023) — The Dodge Momentum Index (DMI), issued by Dodge Construction Network, fell 8.4% in January to 201.5 (2000=100)  from the revised December reading of 220.0. In January, the commercial component of the DMI fell 10.0%, and the institutional component receded 4.7%.

 

NOVI, Mich. (Feb. 6, 2023) — Hino Trucks announced the appointment of Glenn Ellis to the position of president and chairman of the board for Hino Trucks, effective Feb. 1, 2023. Ellis succeeds Shigehiro Matsuoka, who retired after holding the position for four years, and will become the first U.S.-born president of Hino Trucks. WASHINGTON (Jan. 18, 2023) — Construction input prices fell 2.7% in December compared to the previous month, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) analysis of U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Producer Price Index data released today. Nonresidential construction input prices also declined 2.7% for the month.

WASHINGTON (Jan. 6, 2023) — The construction industry added 28,000 jobs on net in December, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) analysis of data released today by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. On a year-over-year basis, industry employment has risen by 231,000 jobs or 3.1%.

 

HAMILTON, N.J. (Dec. 19, 2022 ) — Total construction starts fell 18% in November to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $926.3 billion, according to Dodge Construction Network. During the month, nonresidential building starts lost 25%, nonbuilding shed 21%, and residential starts dropped 5%.

WASHINGTON (Dec. 14, 2022) — After four straight three-quarter-point interest rate hikes, the Federal Reserve is set to announce a smaller half-point increase in its key rate Wednesday, a first step toward dialing back its efforts to combat inflation.

During the month, the DMI continued its steady ascent, with the commercial component rising 4.3%, and the institutional component ticking up 2.7%.

WASHINGTON (Dec. 2, 2022) — The construction industry added 20,000 jobs on net in November, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) analysis of data released today by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. On a year-over-year basis, industry employment has risen by 248,000 jobs, an increase of 3.3%.

HAMILTON, N.J. (Nov. 17, 2022) — Total construction starts rose 8% in October to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $1.12 trillion, according to Dodge Construction Network. In October, nonresidential building starts gained 9%, and nonbuilding starts rose 26%; however, residential starts fell by 3%.

STAMFORD, Conn. (Nov. 14, 2022) — United Rentals, Inc. today announced that the company has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the assets of family-owned Ahern Rentals, Inc. for approximately $2.0 billion in cash. The board of directors of United Rentals unanimously approved the agreement. The transaction is expected to close prior to year-end 2022, subject to customary conditions.

WASHINGTON (Nov. 15, 2022) — Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) reports today that its Construction Backlog Indicator declined to 8.8 months in October, according to an ABC member survey conducted October 20 to November 4. The reading is 0.7 months higher than in October 2021.
